Posted: 04:59 AM ET

Happy New Year!

It’s the first Monday of 2012 – many of you don’t have to go to work today, but we’re starting up as usual at 6a ET. Natasha Curry is in for Robin.

The Republican presidential candidates will be working today… it’s the last full day of campaigning before tomorrow’s Iowa caucus.
Who’s leading the polls today? Who’s gaining strength? And which candidate is saying "no more Mr. Nice Guy"?
Also, what issues are really on the minds of Iowa voters?

Call it the power of the people – or social media. Verizon Wireless now says it will NOT charge us an extra $2 to pay our bills.

Fires in California and fires in New York – are there serial arsonists on the East and West coasts? We’ve got new information this morning.

The regular NFL season is over – let the playoffs begin!

King James has picked a queen.

You know you can watch Nancy Grace at 8pm ET as usual. And starting tonight you can also catch her at 10pm ET too.

First two weeks of NBA season cancelled – Robin Meade's Tuesday preview

Posted: 06:15 AM ET

Ready to rock Tuesday out of its doldrums? Thought so.
Glad to have you as a morning comrade.
Here we go…
-
On the show today:

NBA commissioner David Stern

They went and did it. The NBA is canceling the first 2 weeks of the season.
But who says it will stop there?
The players’ union says the whole season could be in jeopardy.
Join us for Carlos' chat about the money, what it means for season ticket holders, and the businesses that earn a living from the sport.
--
There's a gene for selfishness!
I’ll give you that story. No I won't! It’s mine.
Wait.
--
There's more to hear from the police interview tape of Michael Jackson’s doctor.
Jurors will hear Dr. Conrad Murray talking about how Jackson’s kids reacted to their father’s death.
Follow the trial online: HLNtv.com/MichaelJackson
--
I LOVE this helpful info:
When’s the best time to buy a ticket if you’re flying for the holidays? Jen’s got the breakdown.
--
Have you noticed the unique language of the “Occupy Wall Street“ protesters? Wiggling fingers, plus a way to be heard without loudspeakers. It’s very interesting! Tune in for more on that.
-–
How about free airline tickets to an exotic location... previously well-visited... but hungry for tourists?
What if it’s the same country where an earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency followed? Do you still like "free"?
--
Hank Williams Jr. isn't going quietly from his Monday night perch. Check out a clip of his newest song in response to getting booted from ESPN’s broadcasts after comparing President Obama to Hitler.
-–
I wouldn't recommend it, but why in the world did a woman, who is 39-weeks pregnant, run the Chicago marathon?
(She ended up giving birth a few hours later.)
--
Busy day! See you on the tube.
Robin

Casey Anthony sentencing today – Live 9am ET on HLN

Posted: 04:28 AM ET

View of Jail where Casey Anthony is being held. Photo by Ryan Smith.

Morning Express with Robin Meade correspondent Ryan Smith is scheduled to be live from outside the Pinellas County Jail (above) this morning as we wait to learn if its most talked about prisoner will go free. Ryan tweeted this photo (and another) of the jail yesterday while planning for today's liveshot and HLN's coverage of what could be the end of the Casey Anthony murder trial.

Casey Anthony was acquitted Tuesday of killing her daughter Caylee Marie. She was, however, found guilty of lying to police... and faces 4 counts on that charge. Each count could earn her a year in prison, however Casey has been in jail for nearly 3 years already. It's entirely possible that the judge's sentence could recognize that 'time served' making today (Thursday 7/7/2011) her last day behind bars and barbed wire.

Watch the sentencing LIVE with Robin Meade and Ryan Smith today at 9am ET (6a PT) on HLN.

Vote in our facebook poll: Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder... do you agree with the jury? VOTE HERE

Singing on the historic 'Birdland' stage

Posted: 12:25 PM ET

Many thanks to the viewers and colleagues who came out to see me sing at the historic Birdland Jazz Club in NYC (although I sang country not jazz). HLN friends Jane Velez-Mitchell, Joy Behar and even buddy Richard Lui (now at MSNBC) were there and even backed me up on one special song. You can see the whole show by clicking the play button above.

Check out the review here from Country Weekly magazine! Post a comment there if you wish!

(Update) Page Six in the New York Post also picked up the story.

Comma-shaped system punctuates bad weather

Posted: 07:03 AM ET

Like Charlie Sheen to a phone interview censor, today’s weather will keep you on your toes. The storm from yesterday over the south is moving through the MW and into the NE. It’s centered over KY now, with a cold front dipping down to the Gulf and a warm front stretching into New England. When you see it on the satellite it looks like a comma, and that is the sign of a powerful system. Heavy rain, wind, and snow is all wrapped into this thing and I’ll show you the action on the show. I think 6-12” of snow in interior NE will be common, as well as 60- mph gusts from DC to Boston. Air travel will be greatly affected, so tune in to see who is getting hammered the hardest at the airports (I’m betting NYC/Philly will see at least 2 hour delays today. I hope not, but it looks bad).

After the 10 tornado reports yesterday, with 2 near Nashville alone, the Mid south and SE dries out this afternoon.

The West is a different story. Another shot of energy will slam into CA this weekend, with heavy rain and snow in the Mountains edging all the way through the Rockies. San Francisco will most likely mix with rain and snow this evening, with the snow level around 350-400 feet. 1-2’ of snow for the Sierra is a good bet too. Hey it’s Friday, at least that rocks. Later!

Bob's Forecast: Severe Storms

Posted: 07:33 AM ET

The weather today will be more active than a Lohan police blotter. The first severe storm day of the year is starting to unfold around TX and OK, and that will head east into AR, MS, TN, MO, and KY today. Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes will develop around the Mid Mississippi Valley this afternoon and tonight. I’ll show you the risk area on the show. Rain is going to come down in sheets, so flood watches are up for KY, TN, AR, MS and up to OH. Look for 3-4” of rain. Once the cold air gets involved tonight, it will switch to snow on the northern fringes of the storm, so there are winter storm warnings from KS to ME as well. Again, I’ll have the details.

Out west, it’s more snow. Winter storm warnings and watches cover everybody from the Rockies to the coast, with a blizzard warning in Spokane right now. The cold air comes cracking in tomorrow too, so for the first time in 30 years San Francisco may see snow. The best bet will be in the North Bay Mountains, but SFO may mix the snow with the rain too.

Just a heads up, traveling today by air will be better than tomorrow, but neither day will be a bed of roses.

See ya out there.
