Filed under: Uncategorized January 18, 2011 Cape Hatteras storm pushing wintry mix north to MainePosted: 06:39 AM ET
Here we go, another winter blast for the NE, and I’m watching for another storm to get going in the area Friday. I guess this is how the winter of ’10-’11 rolls! Air Travel, road travel, foot travel, horse travel… it will all be slow today. I can picture my old neighbors sweeping off the stoop with the curlers in, the cig in the mouth, and the moo-moo draped over saying “Bobby! Not again! Cough.” Today’s storm is off the coast of Cape Hatteras, NC and is pushing the winter mix up to ME at the moment. There are all kinds of winter storm warnings for the Mid Atlantic and NE, but I think the warm air gets wrapped into this mess and turns everybody over to rain later today along the coast. NYC, Philly, Baltimore and DC have already changed from snow to freezing rain (which is worse) and they will switch to rain shortly. It should be all snow for northern NE, with about 5-10” for NH and VT, parts of ME. Another weak cold front is spreading the snow across the MW, and rain in the Mid South/South. I’ll show you the radar. It’s pretty active. The other big story west of the Rockies is the extremely cold air that is sliding down the upper Plains. Wind chills are approaching -30 F in ND and MN, and the temps will only budge slightly this afternoon. Some more light rain is around the Pac. NW, but it’s not much. The flood warnings remain in parts of WA, OR, and ID. MT has a nice shot of snow heading through as well. The rest of the country should be fine, with some morning fog in TX for air delays. I’ll have those too. Posted by: Meteorologist Bob Van Dillen Family puts house up for sale to follow hockey team for special sonPosted: 06:38 AM ET
A 10-year-old super fan is urging his parents to move to follow his favorite team. Young Zach Bennett from Albany, NY, has Neurofibromatosis which causes tumors to grow on his nerves. The treatment for his ailment has so far required over 20 surgeries, including having both legs amputated. His favorite hockey team the Albany River Rats recently moved to North Carolina and now that's where Zach wants to go! His family has actually agreed because there's a hospital in Charlotte that specializes in Zach's illness. The team, now called the Charlotte Checkers, flew the family down for a visit recently and Zach had the time of his life. The family has put their house on the market and as soon as it sells, Zach's dad says they'll move. Posted by: Sports Anchor Rafer Weigel Tucker the Schnoodle plays pianoPosted: 06:01 AM ET

Check this out. A woman is walking along, not watching where she's going... Filed under: Uncategorized January 14, 2011 Feels like we're back in the 1800s in AtlantaPosted: 06:17 AM ET
Let me tell you this: I would rather be a hotel owner and watch Charlie Sheen stagger into the lobby than be caught in Atlanta when another winter storm hits. After five days, there are still icy roads and impassable hills. What is this, 1880? We have to wait for the sun to melt the snow? What’s next, getting fed from the back of a stage coach from a scruffy dude named ‘Cookie’? This is one of the biggest metro areas in the country, and I’m just a little disappointed. Oh well, fuhgetaboutit. The temps and sun may help melt some ice in the SE and Mid Atlantic today, but it will still be a very cold start. There are hard freeze warnings in GA, FL, AL, MS, and LA. That means temps will be under 26F to start out the morning, but it should get a few degrees warmer than what they had yesterday by this afternoon. A series of weak storms are rolling through the northern half of the nation, with light snow in MI, IN, OH, and PA. more snow is falling in ND, and that is edging to MN. I’ll have the radar for you on the show, but it is cold for just about everybody except for the SW. How about 80 in Los Angeles today? Nice. More rain and snow in the Pacific NW, with Seattle ready to get about an inch of rain today and tonight. It’s mostly freezing rain in western MT, with a warning. Air travel for a get-away-Friday looks pretty decent, but low clouds in San Francisco will slow you down by about an hour. More details on the show. It’s good to be back!
