If Rush Wants to Play ball, so be it

Posted: 09:54 AM ET

Sports Anchor Rafer Weigel

Here’s the most ironic thing about Rush Limbaugh wanting to buy into the NFL. If he does, he’ll become the very thing he’s been rallying against—a socialist.

Rush Limbaugh is interested in an ownership position in the NFL. The players association isn't so sure that's a good idea.
Rush Limbaugh is interested in an ownership position in the NFL. The players association isn't so sure that's a good idea.

I’m exaggerating somewhat, but follow me.

The NFL practices corporate Socialism, i.e. profit sharing. The teams that make the most money “share the wealth” with the lower-market teams. That way Green Bay can compete with New York.

Rush wants to buy in to the St. Louis Rams—who specifically benefit from this financial model. They pull in less money than other larger market teams like the Bears and Giants who in turn pony up cash to them so they can stay competitive (which they’re not right now, but that’s another blog post). Would Rush suddenly change his tune if he should benefit from the model he seems to despise so much?

And while Rush would only be a part of the group bidding to buy into the team, his past comments on people of color are drawing the ire of some in the league. On his brief stint on ESPN he said Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was overrated because he’s African American and once said the NFL resembles more of a game between the “Crips” and the “Bloods”—referring to rival gangs.

Union chief, DeMaurice Smith, is trying to create a unified front against the possible purchase. In an email Smith wrote:

“Sport in America is at its best when it unifies, gives all of us reason to cheer, and when it transcends. Our sport does exactly that when it overcomes division and rejects discrimination and hatred.”

Whether you agree with Smith’s point or not, the reality is, you can’t keep Limbaugh from buying in if the NFL lets him. It is America and it is a free market. Plus denying him plays into his whole “schtick”.

Rush’s whole thing is to rally against big government and regulating the free market. If you keep him from doing business because of some agenda, you’ll only give him more fuel to fan those flames.

Not that contradicting his agenda should be the league’s concern. But let the free market dictate his success or failure. Some players have said they won’t play for him. Let’s see. If the top free agents won’t go to St. Louis, that’s them exercising their rights within the free market system. But I think, if Rush should become a part of the fraternity, the only color most players will be paying attention to is green and the millions of dollars they’ll get playing for him.

Rush should be blocked from the NFL. I feel that NFL has never displayed any connection with minority groups, and since the NFL has a large amount of minoroties, it would not be in the best interest to have Rush as an owner of any team. The NFL would turn into a plantation.

Paula Hansen   October 12th, 2009 3:43 pm ET

No gog no he should not be sllowed, I thinlk, that man scared me , I'm an emigrant And what worries me moré iis that he has a lot Of followers, there is no respect for others worldwide.

Howard   October 12th, 2009 3:54 pm ET

Let Rush and his friends buy the team. His success or failure will be determined by that big mouth of his. You notice how quiet Marge is up in Cincinatti is these days.

Kathryn, Lloyd, Gretchen, and Jon Brinker.   October 12th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

Robin, you were dazzling and beautiful–as always–on this Columbus Day holiday morning; we were surprised to see you, but we know the
hardworking, dedicated journalist you are . . . and we are very happy to have you back with us on Morning Express, where you so belong !!!
Rafer, we are waiting with anticipation for the arrival of the Weigel baby–please let us know as soon as the blessed event happens !! Now to the subject of the day, Mr. Rush Limbaugh: we just heard that he will be one of the judges for the Miss America 2010 pageant . . . let's hope and pray that this isn't a repeat of the Perez Hilton-Miss U.S.A. incident with some poor, innocent, naive contestant not knowing what will come out of Mr. Limbaugh's thoughts and questions !!! We are sorry, but we have never liked, agreed, or supported any of Mr. Limbaugh's views or whatever subject he was trying to win an audience over with . . . he tries to talk the talk, but ends up with negativity on all reactions !!! In regard to his wanting to buy into the NFL, if he or anyone else has the money to put up–like the Williams sisters (Serena and Venus) did with the Miami Dolphins–then power to them ! They have the bank accounts, not us ! We all know that Mr. Limbaugh is very racist–and lets all of America know about it. Since the majority of football players are African-American and so very proud (like they should be; like our great President Obama), we don't think Mr. Limbaugh will have many of them cheering his purchased team on the sidelines !! Whatever happened to the days of going to a football game with the family enjoying the popcorn, peanuts, Cracker Jacks, and hot dogs–and not having to wonder who will dip their hands into the pot of gold at the end of the ticket sales ?? Just let the games begin !! Robin, hope you have a very happy week . . . and remember that we love ya, our Ohio girl !! Robin's Follies !!! Go Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints all the way to the Super Bowl 2010 !!!

thomas   October 12th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

RUSH IS GREAT!!!SO THE RAMS MIGHT HAVE ONE OF THE BEST OWNER EVER IF THIS HAPPENS!!!!!!

Pam   October 13th, 2009 7:09 am ET

I have been a Rams fan since the mid 70s. I have endured many a losing streak and a move to St. Louis. If Rush Limbaugh buys this team, I will no longer support this team. I can not believe that the league will allow this purchase to happen.

Claude Thomas   October 13th, 2009 7:11 am ET

If you believe in free enterprise and capitalism, then Limbaugh shouldnbe allowed to purchase the team..... His politics really are not a relative Issue

sean lewis   October 13th, 2009 7:14 am ET

rush has a right to buy whatever he wants but I think the african american is bigger then he is I would do everything that I can to blog tweet protest against him he is the wosrt kind of bigot he hides behind this " I'm color blind b.s." he is a racist plain and simple go back and look at his history....

kashma porter   October 13th, 2009 7:14 am ET

First lets be truthful about the phase "free market" particular when that
market is used mainly to explot others. Where sale item far above the cost to manufacture. I beleive the dictionary defines that as greed. Just view the econmic situation we're current in. Secondly, Rush words do mean something and have consequences.

steve   October 13th, 2009 7:20 am ET

I'm from STL and think his buying the team is a great idea.

nbc   October 13th, 2009 7:22 am ET

Oh please; Again with someone who knows little or nothing about running a team let alone football. A "blitz" is not a Hungarian sandwich Rush. He's great at running his LIPS but that's it. Then there is the "race card". Rush isn't prejudice; he does'nt like anyone except whatever it is that looks back at him in the mirror in the morning. And didn't he go to court over some drug issue that he had ? Knows little about running a sports frachise, has no regard for people let alone folks of a different color, and is quick to blame others for his mistakes. Oh i'm sorry. That would either make him a GREAT owner or these days, with a resume' like that he could work for the U.S. government. Stick to your day job Rush. That's right; you work at night thank God.

Jami   October 13th, 2009 7:26 am ET

Al Sharpton and Jesse jackson need to sit down somewhere! If Rush wants to buy a team whats the problem? Rush only tells the truth and they dont like that. if they were trying to buy a team and rush was against it, it would be an all out race war!

Mike Anderson   October 13th, 2009 7:45 am ET

I know there are alot of people who do not want Rush to be a team owner in the NFL because of a bunch of comments that some find racist. The NFLPA has voiced concern about Rush being a team owner. Well I believe the NFLPA has no right in who gets to be a owner or not. If a player has a problem with a certain owner the solution to that problem is to simply play out your contract and swith teams. The NFLPA needs to stick to the well-being of the players in the NFL and not to the team who the players play.

Mike B   October 13th, 2009 7:46 am ET

Rush should be allow to participate in anything sports related just as any other free American can. If these so called 'leaders' continue this circle of hurt and unforgiveness where will it end? Will they protest the man owning a company that employs people of multiple ethnical backgrounds? Grow up Reverand. Quit throwing stones.

Mike B   October 13th, 2009 7:49 am ET

Not a Rush supporter, just very concerned about our dwindling freedoms as Americans...

KYLEEN JIANNINE   October 13th, 2009 8:10 am ET

I thought that capitalism and free enterprise were the cornerstone of our nation. I really dislike Limbaugh, but I would defend his right to make what he thinks is a sound business decision. And whether we like it or not pro football is a business, not a stage for social concern.

Cindy Chitwood   October 13th, 2009 8:10 am ET

If Rush wants to purchase a team – good for him. How is it that we allow Al Sharpton to "discriminate" against a buyer who just happens to be white? There are many business owners who have employees of the opposite color. An NFL team is no different. If the NFL players who are on Rush's team don't like him – they can go someplace else and play. It's a free country.

Chip   October 13th, 2009 8:12 am ET

I don't see why anyone is having problems with Rush owning an NFL team, after all I'm sure there are drug abusers in the NFL also.

Wayne   October 13th, 2009 8:12 am ET

Concerning Rush wishing to purchase a team. I think that the black radicals in the country have played the "race-card" just one time too many. Claims of racism now fall on deaf ears. If he can afford the team.... go for it..... just as anyone else should have that opportunity.

Pauly   October 13th, 2009 8:13 am ET

Rush doesn't have any "right" to own an NFL team! He has the privelege of making a bid & the owners have a right to accept one of the other 5 bids & refuse his. Personally, I would loive him to become an NFL owner. I would like to see him have to deal w/ all the things he loathes so much, ie: one of the strongest unions in the country, black players, ESPN & the socialistic makeup of the NFL. However, due to his comments & prior drug addiction, I'm sure the NFL will see his bid as a possible detriment to their business.

Honest Abe   October 13th, 2009 8:14 am ET

Just out of curiosity, can anyone quote a truly racist comment made by Mr. Limbaugh?

I know how he is precieved, but has anyone actually heard him say (within context) something that was really racist?

If so, I'd like to hear it.

Either way, it is a free market and any American has the freedom and the right to at least bid on anything they want. Isn't the fact that anyone can work hard their whole life and get to a place to make such a large purchase what makes our country great?

M.S.   October 13th, 2009 8:14 am ET

I see that Al Sharpton is now involved, where was he & Jesse ( besides the funeral ) when that honor student was brutally murdered in Chicago ???

M.S.
Lansing

Vernon Goins   October 13th, 2009 8:14 am ET

The last time I checked this was still a free country. For people like Sharpton and Jackson to be pointing at others and calling them racist is a laugh. Can we keep the politics out of something? The Rams need something and maybe Rush is it. Give him a chance, everyone deserves one.

Glenford Warmington   October 13th, 2009 8:15 am ET

The last thing the NFL needs is an owner as divisive and racially insensitive as Limbaugh. His ownership will do nothing positive for the NFL brand and is most likely to detract from the team and the game. It would be interesting to see the caliber of players willing to essentially work for Mr. Limbaugh, consider his track record of insulting and demeaning minorities.

Nathan   October 13th, 2009 8:15 am ET

People are worried about Rush owning part of the Rams, come one anybody remember Marge Schott?

Ken   October 13th, 2009 8:15 am ET

Checkout KSDK.com (st louis news) and see the feed back from this area. Without boring you with my views of Al and Jesse being opportunistic racists, I hope the NFL does not validate their opinions by blocking the sale. If it is truly a problem, the fans will not show, merchandise sales will go down, and Rush will dump his shares for economic reasons. I don't believe that the players will turn down millions over this point. It is an idle threat.

K.B.   October 13th, 2009 8:16 am ET

I am not sure why this is even an issue...this is a free country, and last time I checked we have freedom of speech. Rush Limbaugh has views that don't agree with many people, but what does that have to do with he and his partners being able to buy a piece of the NFL? If he has the money, let him do it! And why are Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson chiming in?!? They both have made defamatory comments about whites in the past, but if they wanted to buy into the NFL, no one would say a word. There is a very clear double standard, and it is not fair.

Kate N   October 13th, 2009 8:17 am ET

Rush Limbaugh has been interested in sports since his career started. He speaks honestly. I think that he is free to buy a sports team if he wants. This is America. What is the big deal?
His political beliefs have nothing to do with this at all. It sounds like the people coming out against this have political motives and that shouldn't play a part in this at all. Maybe the Rev. Sharpton has some kind of prejudice against Limbaugh!

bwp   October 13th, 2009 8:18 am ET

I personally dont listen to rush, but this is a free country with free enterprise. So, based on that if rush meets the requirements to own a pro team so be it, but the only reason rev. sharpton and j. jackson are in this mix is to once again get their face on tv because you never hear from them unless it's something dealing with "race".

Nicky Boston   October 13th, 2009 8:20 am ET

Ok are you guys serious! This man is openly racist, and we as a society have a responsibility, do we put money over integrity, over people, that's like letting Roman Polansky buy the girls scouts, really why is this even up for Debate hve you guys no shame!

Chris ZD   October 13th, 2009 8:31 am ET

Rush does not discriminate! He is a champion equale rights as put forth by Martin Luther King. Rush states on a daily basis that people should be judged by what they do and not the tone of thier skin.

Jessy Jackson and political groups alligned with him want to devide people into groups based on color. They use out of context coments of Rush in an attempt to discredite his political position.

William   October 13th, 2009 8:50 am ET

Why does everyone have a problem with Rush being a part of the NFL when everyone turned a blind eye to a convicted animal torturer being let back in ? Yes Vick, some of us do still have a problem with you. Rush's words, though wrong, do not inflict pain...unlike Vick's actions. Shame on the NFL!

sean lewis   October 13th, 2009 8:52 am ET

and further more the nfl players union has more power then rush and they know were their bread is buttered so let the fight begin we ll see who wins this fight.

kari   October 13th, 2009 9:01 am ET

I listen to a black radio station 100.1 in muskegon michigan. I am white. I listen to jay in the am , and michael baisden in the afternoon. rev al sharpton has been on the show many times supporting only black issue involving civil rights. i dont think i have ever seen him support a white civil infringement. furthermore, i am no fan of rush but i am still subject to listen to his opinions weather i like them or not. if white radio d/j's or their guests said half the prejuduice comments that the black radio hosts get away with, the. the white hosts would be off the air. we need to take all the black and white comparisons out

jason martin   October 13th, 2009 9:07 am ET

Why would anyone want rush to own a football team? The only thing he can run is his mouth!

matt   October 13th, 2009 9:09 am ET

Rush has a right to buy the team its still a free country, people are getting tired of these washed up race pimps Jackson and Sharpton

Jon   October 13th, 2009 9:09 am ET

Rush has the money and the stature to bring in the good players if you listen to Rush you would know that he is NOT A RACIST he is a true entertainer and should be able to buy the team if he wants go RUSH!!!

David Marshall   October 13th, 2009 9:09 am ET

The man has taken too many drugs, his brain is fried, what is he thinking? He clearly does not like the NFL, or Black players he made that clear. If he does buy a team I for one, will not watch any of there games. The man is a nut.

Trey   October 13th, 2009 9:10 am ET

I think the guy has every right in the world to own the St Louis Rams. It's too bad some people have to put race into a sports issue. If he wants the team let him have it! Trey, Mississippi

Troy   October 13th, 2009 9:11 am ET

If Rush Limbaugh wants to own and NFL team and he has the money to do so, then why are people trying to stop him? I bet that if Al Sharpton or Jessie Jackson tried to buy and NFL team it would be on the fasttrack. Al and Jessie wake up! Since when do you get a say on what someone decides to spend THIER own money for? Since when do you get a say on who someone decides to sell THIER team too? Grow up!

Duane Kellogg   October 13th, 2009 9:14 am ET

Rush is a racist and has been for quite some time. Him buying the Rams is totally absurd. He needs to stick with his radio and stay out of the sports scene. I too have been a Rams fan since the 70's but I would not continue if Rush becomes the owner. That's just my choice

bakers   October 13th, 2009 9:14 am ET

This is a free enterprise system that what draws people to our country. Races should not dictate who owns what or who buys what. It seems that the race card is always played by the same race everytime. What the hell does two black loud mouth "preachers" have to do with what Rush Limbaugh wants to spend his money on. Geeze, give it a rest.

Shannon   October 13th, 2009 9:16 am ET

I think Rush should be able to by the Rams if he can. Al Sharpton needs to get a life. I think he should get Glenn Beck to be a co-owner

Ruth Fuller   October 13th, 2009 9:16 am ET

Rush Limbaugh has a right to buy the team. Good luck to him.

Thomas   October 13th, 2009 9:17 am ET

Let him buy the team. This is America, not some other country where you can be denied the ability and freedom to buy something, or to participate in something. Sure, what he does for his job is questionable, but it's not harming anyone, is it? Bill of Rights: Freedom of Speech, right? So let him buy it. He's got the money and the plan, it's not like he's going to use the team to promote his own personal beliefs or anything.
I don't understand why this is such a big deal.... Rev. Sharpton, Mr. Jackson: Why haven't you spoken up about our troops overseas? Why haven't you used your voice to better the people of the nation, and not just the minorities? Quit being selfish. There are alot of Americans suffering in these times.

CLA   October 13th, 2009 9:34 am ET

I find it ironic that Rush Limbaugh wants any part of the "Crips and Bloods". A large percentage of the NFL players are African American. Rush has made some disparaging and very hurtful comments about people of color. Unfortuantely, our society condones and rewards cancers like Rush who publicly assault minorities with wreckless regard. Who in their right mind would relate educated, athletic and gifted men to violent gang bangers? Rush shouldn't be surprised that he's not wanted in the NFL..he's not wanted any where. Rush doesn't even like himself. If his offensive remarks reflect his beliefs, then only thing that can help Rush is prayer...lot's of it. If the NFL accepts Rush, then I believe alot of us will find a way to show our disapproval to the NFL. I'll start by cancelling my NFL Sunday Ticket and refusing to patronize or watch St. Louis or any team that plays them. We already have more of Rush than we can handle.

Charles Brown   October 13th, 2009 10:00 am ET

Rush should be block from participate in the ownership of any NFL team. With, his current track record of racial outburst on the air concerning our new president. He is one who feeds on the ignorance of working class whites who are looking for any excuse to point a finger. Yet he claims he is a fair and just man. How can anyone who promotes racial unrest be "Fair and Just" he has made his living on the backs of confused whites by spreading ethnics overtones. He has gotten rich preaching hate and racial division over the radio. Yet he hides behind the Constitution and the Bill of Rights yelling "Freedom of Speech." I think this gentleman feels and wants the U.S. to return to the old "Jim Crow Rule."

Randall Burr   October 13th, 2009 10:14 am ET

There is nothing discrimenatory about Rush buying a football team. If anything it is discrimination to exclude him from the opportunity if he is in a position to do so.

darrell   October 13th, 2009 10:14 am ET

I wouldn't support in any way a financial endeavor Rush pursued, be it clothing, food, etc., because of philosophical differences. However, the football community has a short memory – the evidently forgot some of the comments made by their former (deceased) owner and the fines levied by the NFL for those comments.

Kirk   October 13th, 2009 10:14 am ET

Rush isn't a racist?? Let's see what he has to say about it in his own words....
I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

Nah.... not a racist at all...

Kenneth Lee   October 13th, 2009 10:17 am ET

Whether its right or wrong, him buying the rams, this is a free country!? Operation of a radio show and being a NFL team owner are two different hats to wear. He is successful at one, he may be successful at the other, but its his money who are we to say where he spends it..

Deborah Footman   October 13th, 2009 10:19 am ET

Since he is racist, if Rush buys a NFL team, how is he going to treat other than white players? Will his racism be reflected in his ownership? Why is he buying the team? So he has control over how many other than whites are on the team? Stay in the business you're in Rush. Being a butthead!

Tommy J   October 13th, 2009 10:21 am ET

Rush is a racist and should be allowed to buy any NFL team.

Dawn   October 13th, 2009 10:22 am ET

Let Rush buy the team. As for owning a Team, he need not know the game. That's what he pays other people for. It's his right as an american citizen. And as for the players who say that they will not play for him, Grow up. You're paid to do a job and paid quite well. Not everyone agrees with or likes their boss, but you are there do do a job. So do it.

job site india   October 13th, 2009 10:23 am ET

I have been a Rams fan since the mid 70s. I have endured many a losing streak and a move to St. Louis. If Rush Limbaugh buys this team, I will no longer support this team.
http://www.jobsshell.com

Tommy J   October 13th, 2009 10:24 am ET

Correction on my last comment. Rush should not be allowed to buy any NFL team.

Denise LeGree   October 13th, 2009 10:28 am ET

A person that has spewed hatred, bigotry and racism should be rewarded with an NFL team, I don't think so. I've had season tickets for The Atlanta Falcons since 1992, if the owners allow this man or group that has included this drug addict in their midst I will not purchase my tickets next year or any year after that. Only in American can you be awarded for his type of behavior...moral and immoral. Does he know the NFL is a socialist organization that believes in sharing the wealth with each team? I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS!!

Geo.   October 13th, 2009 11:29 am ET

Racism in sports? Al and Jessie already stirred the pot in the Duke Lacrosse team cry rape case on some white players. They rushed to judgement to villify the white kids. But when the truth came out, they were long gone and offered no apology for their racist judgement. Who are they to throw stones??

.

raymond   October 13th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Just look at his history. That should say it all. Why would a racist want to buy a team that has alot off black people MMM Makes you wander.

Gw   October 13th, 2009 12:18 pm ET

As bad as the Rams are, Rush ownership would be the final death of the team. I am from St. Louis and I have not talked to one local person who follows football in this area who wants this man as a team owner. Unfortunately, I'm sure Rush is loving the controversy, as his name is mentioned daily now on the news. Too bad for St. Louis. The last thing this City needs is to be associated with his name.

Kendell   October 14th, 2009 7:27 am ET

The Rams are already one of the worst teams in the league. Why would they want to do something to push away fans who have supported them? That is what will happen if Rush is able to become an owner. More people should speak on the real issue at hand. The NFL is made up of a lot of stars who are black. Rush Limbaugh is despised by black people across the nation as he is seen as a racist who continues to demean black people as a whole. The argument that most players don't know Rush Limbaugh is not credible. Black people are well aware of who he is and do not wish to support or do anything to benefit him in any way. Black people may be a small percentage of the population, but are the majority in the league.

jeff briggs   October 14th, 2009 9:35 am ET

This man has made a fortune running his mouth. He's dodged jail like all the other wealthy people in America do.Why not buy a piece of a pro team. What can stop him in this country? The answer is NOTHING!

Mike   October 14th, 2009 9:39 am ET

Interesting moral compass the NFL commissioner has...

slaughter helpless animals, we embrace you

exercise your right of free speech, we don't want you ???

A wise man once said "politcal correctness is just tyranny with good manners.

David from Huntsville, Al   October 14th, 2009 1:57 pm ET

I don`t much like Rush Limbaugh, actually I despise him, but I think if he has the money to purchase the team, he should be able to, otherwise it is just reverse discrimination. And really, should Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have any right to have a say in this? As far as I`m concerned, they are just as racist as anyone I`ve ever seen, if not more. They only stick up for one race, so I don`t see how they can even be considered as civil rights leaders.

Georgia B. Njagu   October 15th, 2009 6:17 am ET

It is my understanding that players on the TEAM had banned together to protest his purchase of the team. If the players did not want him as their employer, they have every right to protest his bid, just like any other business takeover. I think Rush wanted a new way to attack the the opposing side of politics and he got it. Go Team! Fight...Fight...Fight!

lori hancock   October 15th, 2009 6:46 am ET

I think it is so wrong for people to whine about Rush wanting to buy into the NFL. If he wants to, let him! My gosh it's like kids fighting over a piece of candy! This country has too many other VERY SERIOUS problems than to worry about something as petty as this! Those are are whining about Rush are just mad because of his political views!
Al Sharpten & Jessie Jackson just want to get their faces in front of the camera AGAIN! They are just two BIG trouble makers who love to do nothing but run their BIG mouths!
They both need to GROW UP!!!!
You go Rush and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Marcia   October 15th, 2009 7:31 am ET

What comes around goes around .... Rush offends so many people with what he says every day and finally it hits him where it hurts (although he'll never admit that). He'll continue blame "the left" for everything, including his own behavior, even though these are his own colleagues (the other investors trying to buy the team) who are choosing to remove him from their group.

Jim   October 15th, 2009 7:42 am ET

Rush is harmful in our efforts to elect less radical Republicans to Congress.
He helps the Democrats by turning off moderate Republicans and Democrats. Too polar

thewargod2000   October 15th, 2009 8:08 am ET

This is a sad sad day for free speech when a person can not invest in a football team due to his outspoken political views. Rush is no more racist than Robin.

Darryl   October 15th, 2009 8:08 am ET

It is time to drop a potential owner from the group when that member can't pass a drug test.

Angelo   October 15th, 2009 8:09 am ET

It shows weakness on the part of the other investors that they've cut Limbaugh out of the deal. Clearly, the man is not a racist. Outspoken? Yes. Controversial? Yes. And assumng these others are intelligent, they've known Limbaugh is outspoken and controversial for many years. They agreed to partner with him to try to buy the team. Now, just because some opportunist media hounds like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are squawking, suddenly these presumably rich and powerful people are quaking in their shoes-and quickly dispatched of Limbaugh. Cowards, all of them. This is what it has come to: If you disagree with somebody on any issue, call them a racist and watch their so called partners run for the hills. It's a cheap way to smear someone.

R.L. is being blackballed for speaking the truth. This is another example of PC run amuck.
McNabb is just another average Q-back who would have been out of the NFL a long tim,e ago if he was white.
Crips and Bloods? He is right. You would know that if you ever listened to the players in pre/post game interviews. They sound just like street gangs talking.

Eric T.   October 15th, 2009 8:14 am ET

This is just typical of the black racist left in this country. So a bunch of racist black players don't want to work for the "white" man. So they all make a big stink about it and the NFL and everybody else won't stand up for them selves. This story first broke as rush wants to buy the rams. Then hear comes the race card for no reason from the blacks. Every time race becomes a issue in this country, it's from the blacks. Who's the real racist? Answer Black people!!!

Ketlin   October 15th, 2009 8:19 am ET

Garbage in Garbage out!

chris   October 15th, 2009 8:37 am ET

It blows my mind to read people calling Rush a racist. If the same people would actually listen to what he is saying they would probably agree with him. His comments a few years ago re: McNabb was a swipe at the media, not McNabb. Of course it was repeated out of context and twisted to fit what the media was trying to portray. Wake up people, he's got DEEP pockets.

Virginia   October 15th, 2009 8:54 am ET

We don't need Rush Limbaugh spoiling our love for the NFL, it's owners, coaches & teams are doing just fine without all his controversies!!!

bates   October 15th, 2009 9:09 am ET

Maybe now Rush will realize that what he says has consequences. If you build walls without doors, you can`t expect to be invited to many partys. Although he says some of the things that are being quoted are not from him, some of the quotes that can be attributed to him are clearly offensive to people. I would think that he would be man enough to accept this, but of course this is a big anti Rush conspiricy just like his drug problem. Rush, You should stop being so cruel to other people. As you sow, so shall you reap.

Mark T   October 15th, 2009 9:14 am ET

I think the NFL owners are just over-inflating this problem with Rush. The problem is that the NFL doesn't like what he has said in the past and they are allowing that to cloud their judgment to let Rush buy into the team. If this isn't a bad case of discrimination, then I don't know what is.

The NFL could use someone like Rush who would actually boost the profits of the Rams and it's hilarious that they wouldn't see what his popularity could do for the team.

The NFL is allowing their racist and bigoted ideals to kick someone out who has made comments in the past. We need to move forward and the NFL is proving just how bigoted and racist their organization is.

Terry short   October 15th, 2009 9:21 am ET

It is reassuring to see that limbaugh's hate has turned and bit him, maybe there is hope for us after all :)

John Harville   October 15th, 2009 9:42 am ET

Well' If you let A convicted Dog killer have his own show and allow him to play in the NFL, why not let Rush buy a team. Is this one sided or what. I am just saying.

mike   October 15th, 2009 9:55 am ET

HA! the "left is trying to end conservitism"? Rush, its your MOUTH thats doing the damage!!! keep your big mouth out of the NFL. the NFL should have a sign that says "we reserve the right to deny service."

jim   October 15th, 2009 11:23 am ET

Maybe if Rush was a dog fight promoter he be welcomed by the NFL.

jim   October 15th, 2009 11:32 am ET

Maybe if Rush joined the Oakland Raiders and broke somebodys
jaw he might qualify.

noMOREtv4u   October 15th, 2009 11:53 am ET

If Rush has ever said anything racist, let the video be shown. Why is there no evidence? Why is it only the biggest racists in the country, who make a living off of racism, trying to paint him as a racist with blatantly false claims, lies, defamation and libel?

Cheri Phillips   October 15th, 2009 3:25 pm ET

Rush has every right as any other citizen to purchase a NFL team. Who's discriminating against whom now!!!!

Mary Powers   October 15th, 2009 8:09 pm ET

Doesn't anybody believe in just plain old freedom anymore???? If Rush wants to own a football team and he has the money, who has the right to tell him he can't? After all, I can't pick and chose my boss. If he's someone who's politics I don't like, I can't do a thing about it. Why should the million dollar salaried football players be allowed to chose the owner of their team? Let Limbaugh alone. If the Ram's don't win for him, he loses money. What in the world have they got to win?????

I have just a general comment; I would like to have someone hear about the truth. have noticed that the U.S. goverment will soon be thinking about (maybe) placing car saftey devices in general cars. They now exsist in only high-end cars. How long will this take? Maybe until all the poor people have almost vanished. Don't tell me that they need more testing. They have it already. Most of the problem seems to come from american unions. The American people today are just plain lazy. More money, less work; That's the American way today.
Just like the space program and any other goverment held job; slow it all down until I get my retirement, then let someone else worry about it. Let's go over them Solar energy, new fuel sorces, wind power, and cars that can actually go alot farther than we are told. Like we don't have backhanded handshakes going on with the sheiks. GM is buying up all the future solar and wind machines. Mobil and every other gas business is buying all the alternative fuel companies or burying them ,,after buying them ,in the patent files. Did you know that in the late ninteen fifties people actually made a car that would never break down? need tires? or rust? Then who would make money?
Here's a new idea? Come up with new ones, instead of trying to hide old ones. We just seem to be heading in reverse because of money.
Can we please get the hell out of the desert war? I have close friends there and we aren't doing any good. We will never win a garbage battle that seems to be over someones pride. How about the head people send their kids there then say it's worth it?
