It's not who you impress, but who impresses you

Posted: 11:30 AM ET

This week, our Morning Sunshine contest continues, and we look to viewers for tips and tales of inspiration as we discuss something everyone would like more of: confidence and self-esteem.

We want to hear your confidence-building tips.
We want to hear your confidence-building tips.

Robin Meade's book, "Morning Sunshine: How to Radiate Confidence and Feel it Too," hits shelves September 10. In the meantime, were asking viewers how they stay confident.

This week's question is:
What tips do you have to maintain your self esteem?

Monday's winner comes to us from Terry of Lynchburg, Tennessee. He says,

"Self-esteem is exactly that: SELF esteem. It's not who you impress but who impresses you in life. You cannot change what or how other people think about you but you can change what you think or feel about yourself either by starting a new hobby, moving to a new place or simply changing the route you take to work everyday."

Thanks Terry! Learn how to submit your tips here.

It's waking up and saying "I'm going to make it a good day!" A positive attitude, a smile, and a good sense of humor gets me through the day.
Follow your dreams, except for the one where you're at the office in your underwear!

Thanks Robin! Your smile and upbeat personality help keep me going in the morning.

Robin: "Self Esteem is brought upon respecting yourself and Others. You can be a successful, beautiful, or wealthy person but if you do not respect yourself or Others you cannot have a sense of self-worth. Self esteem comes from within, it is how you carry yourself and treat other people. It is about being positive and relaying this to people around you.

My tip is Always treat other people the way you want to be treated. Just one positive word to someone can boost their self esteem and yours as well."

Off the record, my personal story:
I had a kidney transplant in February and prior to this I was on dialysis for 8 months. When you feel sick inside your self esteem diminishes. I forced myself to ALWAYS put makeup on, especially lipstick, and dressed nice to go to dialysis. I even put lipstick on while in the hospital for my transplant. It is not that I am vane, but when you take time in presenting yourself in a positive manner you lift your spirits up, therefore, your self esteem goes up a notch.

I have had 3 kidney transplants, you can play connect the dot on my body from all of my surgeries, BUT I ALWAYS try to keep a positive attitude. I always tell people my story of battling Kidney disease. If I can help ONE person in this world with this story, then I have done my job.

Thank you!
