Bob's half-marathon: California here he comes!

Posted: 12:41 PM ET

Team Challenge – check it out! - is headed West this week. The Napa to Sonoma half Marathon is this Sunday, and my wife and I are flying out to participate in the run for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.

You can support me by making a donation to the CCFA!

This weekend is going to be very fun. Since I'm the honorary chairman for the foundation, I get to MC the Saturday night pasta dinner before the race. What an honor, I get to recognize the people that are racing to find a cure for the diseases by raising money and awareness. I can't wait to meet the heroes that trained while their diseases were flaring up. I couldn't imagine the strength it takes to do that! I'll share the details of the events next week when I get back from Califonia.

This past Saturday was my last long run with my wife, 12 miles. The path we take only crosses over 4 streets, and I had an issue on the very first crossing. The light just changed green and some insane lady barreled around the blind corner and almost took us out in the crosswalk. Then she had the nerve to shake her head at me, the guy with the right-of-way! I was glad her window was down, because she got an earful.

Polite version: I told her she was most likely born without the benefit of a working brain, and lacked the blessing of common sense.

Anyway, this week is much easier (until the race, which I dread).

Monday: weights, 3 mile at a 8:30 pace
Tuesday: weights, 4 miles
Wednesday: weights, 30 minute tempo run
Thursday: weights, 2 miles
Friday: we fly out to CA
Saturday: rest
Sunday Race, 13.1 miles. My personal best is 1 hour 49 minutes. I will try to beat it, but I am weighing in at 200 lbs.

Hi Bob – I'm a big fan of yours, ever since the Gun Show. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention but I had no idea you were doing this. I have Crohn's and am a member of CCFA – even considered doing the marathon, but I can't get there from Florida. I'm thrilled to learn of your support & participation. I hope you have a blast and I wish you tons of luck! BTW, when will you do another Gun Show??? Please make it btwn 7:00 am and 8:00 am...

Robin, you looked very beautiful–as you do every morning–on "Morning Express" !!! Now to our man Bobby: we didn't know if you would post a last blog before heading out to California, so here is our message to you !! We want to wish you and your wife the best of luck as you both make the most anticipated half-marathon run this Sunday !! You have been such an outstanding advocate for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America: they definitely chose the best man for the honor of being chairman of this most prestigious event !! We are sure that much money will be raised . . . and that awareness will be brought to this so very worthy cause. We all have enjoyed reading your many adventures and encounters of some very unusual individuals as you prepped for the race !! Bobby, as you MC the pasta dinner on Saturday evening, don't forget to mention all
the great members of your "Morning Express" team back in Atlanta: yes, our number-one anchor, Robin; Natasha; Jenn; Rafer; Richard; Bonnie; and Larry ! You-all are our true winners every morning !! Bobby, don't eat too much pasta . . . and we have faith in your completing the race at 1 hour, 30 minutes !! (Yes, you can do it !! ) Hope you and your wife have a safe and great trip out west ! We can't wait to hear all about it next week !! Remember: we love ya, Ohio girl . . . Robin's Follies !!!!
