Blogging could be worth millions

Posted: 10:41 AM ET

Business Correspondent Jennifer Westhoven

Got a great idea and want to blog about it? Maybe you could become the next blogging millionaire.

Because most blogs are private, it’s very difficult to know how much they’re worth… but a reporter at the blog “24/7 Wall Street” did some digging, and you may be surprised at how much some of these sites are worth!

Check out the top ten most valuable blogs:

1. Gawker Properties (owns Gawker, Defamer and Jezebel) - $170 million.
2. Huffington Post - $90 million.
3. The Drudge Report - $48 million.
4. Perez Hilton - $32 million.
5. Sugar, Inc. - $27 million.
6. TechCrunch - $25 million.
7. MacRumors - $21 million.
8. SeekingAlpha - $11 million.
9. GigaOm - $9.5 million.
10. Politico - $8.7 million.

Not too surprising, being a platform that allows you to voice your opinions and ideas on a world wide stage (like the internet) is quite a service. ideas are an underrated resorce, for now.

Good morning Robin, I heard that the first black family of the white house has a dog now,and is looking to name him or her. since they are the first black family and this will be their first dog why not name him or her "UNO" meaning first or one. What do you think?

Wondering if there is help for people on Workers Comp.? This is a nontaxable income therefore no one will refinance for you. I have recently settled my case and now waiting for disability. I have one child and the childsupport (when I get it) is what we live on. My house payment $865. The childsupport $400. I have tried several times to refinance. Is there help for me?

Jennifer, Love your reporting but when you talk about the auto industry and thier request for money please remember that this is a LOAN they're looking for not a free handout "BAILOUT". The financial industry was handed a bail out that originally had no strings attached, while the auto industry asked for a LOAN that had all kinds of restrictions pushed by law makers with foriegn transplants in thier states. I'm am a laid off unemployed die maker who has zero chance of ever returning to my job at GM. I have never made $73 per hour and in actuallity make $2 an hour less than my counterparts at Toyota.

this is for jennifer, i have a question. i worked all my life to get health care i now am retired with life time health care for me and my wife. i now find that my wife and myself have to take medicare we have no choice its mandatory. my question is why would the goverment want to pay out money on our behalf. it has to pay before my insurance.why not give people with proof of good insurance the chance to opp out of medicare as long as they show they have very good insurance.if at a later date they lose their insurance give them the chance to then take medicare .after thought, my insurance requires me to take medicare so they only pay after the goverment pays our tax money for them.

I heard on the radio that now is a good time to by my grand children some stock for their future and to help with their learning curve on finances. Please suggest your top three industries to consider to best ensure a positive financial experience for them.

I have 2 questions. What kind and where did the persons commenting on the budget, obtain their degree in economics.
It has taken months for the budget office and the President to put together the budget, how long did the commentator take in actually reading the budget or at least the summary/ I don't think they know what they are speaking.

Ms Jen,
First off I really like the info you put out, thanks.

I have a multiple question for you;

How come companies CEO’s and their main higher staff members( who get over paid anyway) and who are begging that they need all these billions of dollars to keep them afloat are not held responsible and accountable for their actions, I hear on the news everyday about the misuse and abuse of the Federal money given to them like when they get a huge bonus have private concerts, have big parties, go Las Vegas and so on, if so, why did congress leave that many loopholes in such a bill so that they can spend the money (our money, not theirs) anyway they want.

My second question why are they not held accountable on how the money is spend and where and if they stray from what the money was intend for be charged with fraud and misuse of the Federal money given to them for a specific reason. Also have all their money assesses frozen and taken over by the government so they will know how it feels standing in an unemployment line or not being able to pay a bill.

I was in the military for 22 years and my son has been in for ten years both active and now Army reseves in all though it hurts to see congress give these companies and all these people in high positions like that get away with stealing the money(we as a people) had saved for our future and our kids future knowing they are not using it for what it was intended for, plus if a normal person did what they are doing we would be sitting in jail for fraud and thief of funds.
Jen/Robin and Staff

Thanks again for all the great morning info, helps me through the morning

I'm pushing 50 right now. I know I've paid in a lot to Social Security, but to only revcieve $250 a month??? What is with that?! We as a society have gone far past that income. How does the goverment expect us to live this way? We work our younger years making $289.00 or plus per week and then now they expect us to live on $250 a month? Stupid!

Is it a good time to buy stocks such as GM?

Charlotte Houck   March 18th, 2009 9:49 pm ET

Ms. Jen,
My question is off the subject but I really want an answer and haven't been able to fnd one-I pay property taxes on my house every year. There is property taxes owed on property that is being or has already been foreclosed. Are the banks and mortage companies responsible for paying these taxes? Don't cities and counties run the government and services on these funds? Who is going to pick up the tab for all of that money?
What would happen if all of America did not pay their income tax? Would the government be able to bailout all those companies- I think I remember that the majority of the America people were against the stimulus packages. Thanks for the ear and the help.
