Today: Get Your Free Makeup at Macy’s, Dillard's and more

Posted: 07:40 AM ET

Business Correspondent Jennifer Westhoven

If you’re trying to save your money these days, you can score some high-end makeup for free!

ALT TEXT

Free perfume! All the glamour, none of the price.

(And this isn’t just for the ladies, guys, you might make your honey extra-happy on Valentine’s Day with a romantic gift like perfume.)

Starting today: Stores are giving away $175 million dollars worth of cosmetics. The makers are settling allegations that they conspired to never offer discounts, and they want to make that antitrust lawsuit go away.

Where to go: Macy's, Dillard's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom and Nieman Marcus.

What you can get: One from this list ...
- Moisturizing creams from Clarins, Estee Lauder, Clinque and Lancome;
- Shower gels from Calvin Klein, Sarah Jessica Parker, Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani;
- Mascara from Lancome;
- Perfume from Boucheron, Chanel, Dior, Guerlain and Givenchy.

You won’t need a receipt, but you will have to sign something, and you may have to wait in line.

I also bet they may be those little travel sizes but hey, it’s something for nothing!

Dear Robin,
I'm an 8th grader attending Lindley Middle School in Cobb County Georgia. Barack Obama is a true saint. I always thought that it was possible for anyone of any race to do anything, but I always had that question mark in the back of my mind. Now its gone thanks to him. I hope he brings the change needed to the U.S. I also hope he realizes what an inspiration he is to people all around the world.

HISTORICALLY A MANIFICENT ENGINE THAT COULD

A little boy dreamed he could, and he should- gather his life dreams, family tree, and move to Capital Hill… Now let the change begin to end the pain, there is no disappointment or disaster smothered within that we can’t overcome together… pass the torch- 4 ever 2keep it alive… we can win and beat the myths, corruptions, and setbacks. You see the road, and path is paved– engraved by the historical dream of yesterday slaves… in fact, today’s reality, and effort to change is more than an image, more than a decision, but a priority, and the long awaited reality that has come… Our voice – of hope, and change captures a challengeable confidence of chance that has set the tone for tomorrow’s new day order.. Barrack Obama the truth is in the journey, so let freedom shine for the imprints are designed in your valor… Because of you, I am honored to have survived a new age of challenge.. Perhaps the struggle has lessened and yesterday’s endurance of slavery is put to rest… I know at it very best, President Hussein Obama you can not pull a wing out of the chest, but with the anointing of God you will do your very best…
As a man of the people, I celebrate your gifts, and the wonderful first lady, your family hope, and the scope to walk with the rock in hand… and as the people of the world must also do-walk hand in hand, and if not take the same stand, embrace our homeland… we must touch each others spirits, open our hearts and minds, as well as keep the balance and leadership alive…Change is here let us move forward, and do our parts to bring the silvery cream balance… the weight, and work of art is in the making- showering history for the hope of taking a stride, effort, and glory of painting the pie as we value the dreams of our own self-worth, a gift to give back to our homeland, knowing our hard work, sweat of our ancestors aren’t solely going down in vain…
Hope and challenge pour in my soul like never before.. I am proud to watch the ball fall, our economy’s war is no more- to know a solid path can’t be split, and see the tides dancing a jig… so let it rip…….An inauguration true moment, I am a 60’s spirit and there is no shadow of doubt that we can not succeed, my country tree is embedded in me, in you, in you and from all creeds- listen up people we must all breatheeeeeeeeee 4 life is our choice and we are so 4 ever freed from the frame of the past… Now let the change begin to end the pain – anything is possible free victims of abuse, corruption in the courts and judicial system free us from war… Fuchsiadivine Justyce F.A. cathy r porter   January 20th, 2009 3:17 pm ET

What a wonderful day. What a proud day to be an African American. A Disabled Veteran. An American. As a 49 year old African American woman, I have seen and been through a lot in my life. I have been up since 5 am today and have had my eyes fill with water on numerous occasions and this is for my great and great-great and grandparents. My father and younger brother, all my aunts and uncles and family who have gone on Glory. This too is your day. So if the days events don't touch the lives of our young folk, they will never have a clue. I hope that Congress and the President will re-instate the Draft. This will open up closed bases and warehouses and bring thousands of jobs back to our communities. It will get these young folks off the street who choose to kill each other in the streets and destroy growth in our neighborhoods. It will give them the responsibility of keeping future generations safe as those before us did. It will give them a sense of why they are free and how to keep that freedom in our country and bring those repeat tour troops home. Let's draft again and look out for those who continue to look out for us. They need to get home to their families as we sit at home with our families.

suzette Bin   January 20th, 2009 6:11 pm ET

Hey Jennifer, Great tip about the free makeup!!! Macy's, Bloomies and Lord and Taylor all were giving away today.....and it isn't the travel size...it's all regular size products and a wide variety to choose from! thanks again, Suzette....NJ

Frankie Jefferson   January 21st, 2009 8:43 am ET

Hi Robin,

I watch your show everytime I get a chance. Keep up the good work. I need to get this message to Tara Wall. If you can, please tell her that in President Obama's Inauguration Address, she did not quote his entire statement. Tara quoted President Obama as saying, "The question we ask today is whether our government is too big or too small.(this is what she commented on). His statement was, "The
question we ask today is whether our government is too big or too small," he said, "but whether it works...where, the answer is yes, we intend to move forward, where the answer is no, programs will end." "nor," he added, "is the question before us whether the market is a force for good or ill. Its power to generate wealth and expand freedom is unmatched, but this cris has reminded us that without a watchful eye, the market can spin out of control...and that a nation cannot prosper long when it favors only the prosperous." If Tara wants to make a comment, Tell her to make her comment on the entire statement. To be an analyst, one should be honest to the person to whom they are speaking of. The media is a source of information to the people and some who admire her comment, will not understand President Obama's full statement, because she quoted only the first part. Thanks Robin, Keep up the good work.

He is going to be a great President and looking forward to seeing what he can do and improve.

Tom Blazucki   January 21st, 2009 8:24 pm ET

Thank Youuuuu!!!! I called my wife at her work and she went to Macy's and got a full size cologne worth $75 dollars. I went later and recieved a men's shower gel by Armani, full size. Thanks for the heads up. I love Robin and Jennifer both.

Nicole M   January 23rd, 2009 6:03 am ET

Speaking of make up I just want to want to say to Robin, The make up you're wearing today is on fire! I turned on HLN and had to do a double take! It's looks great! Those colors are amazing!

carol   January 23rd, 2009 10:10 am ET

estee lauder gave away night serum. on the package was "not packaged for individual sale" which means it was part of a free promo package that they once had offered with a purchase it's nice to get something for nothing occasionally, but, hey, the company didn't exactly pull into their stock to make people happy. clinique did have a moisture gel that may have also been part of a promo due to it's small size. this is a marketing advantage for them. if you like the bone they gave you, you will be back to pay some $$$$ to get a full size.

spark   January 24th, 2009 11:54 pm ET

As a person of color, and male, I hate looking older. What is available for us? and how do we use it?

Susan Fitch   January 26th, 2009 9:21 am ET

There should be free stuff like this to the public., because of the weak economy or recession, if you may. I hope this is true, because I can really use the make up cleansers and etc, and I know that Dillards has good makeup. Thanks, MsChampagne

Anna   January 27th, 2009 8:36 am ET

HOW CAN WE SAY BUY AMERICAN, WHEN MOST ITEMS ARE NOT MADE IN THE U.S. EXAMPLE ANY BRAKE PART FOR CARS, NOT A SINGLE ITEM FROM ANY COMPANY IS MADE IN THE U.S. THERE IS NOT A PLACE IN THE U.S. THAT MAKES THESE PARTS, THIS IS JUST ONE EXAMPLE, MAYBE FIND US A LIST OF ITEMS THAT ARE MADE IN THE U.S. AND POST THAT. I LIKE TO SEE WANT IS MADE IN THE U.S. THAT WE CAN BUY.

THANK YOU

Hershey Smitty   February 5th, 2009 9:09 am ET

Couple of things CNN team,

You are mis leading the public on your Hershey's Ice Cream story.

Hershey Ice Cream is not the same as Hershey Chocolate or Hershey Food s INC.. They are two completely different companies.

The largest Steel company in the USA is Arcelor Mittal Steel. They are owned by overseas Billionaires from the Mid EAST...

Figure it out...

Ron   February 5th, 2009 10:25 am ET

In order to buy American we have to repeal NAFTA. We are experiencing the effects of NAFTA. We didn't sell or lease our manufacturing base, we GAVE it away through NAFTA. Why isn't anybody talking about this?

Gail Clements   February 6th, 2009 10:01 am ET

I agree totally with the buy american clause in the stimulus bill. The root cause of this whole jobs problem relates directly to the buying of cheap inferior imports in the first place. Haven't we sent enough of this country's wealth and jobs overseas yet? This is nothing more than greedy coporate america dictating to their bought and paid for cronies in washington how to preserve and protect their greediness for the future. If you bother to look at the products in any store they are 90% imports from american owned companies that maintain all their manufacturing facilities in foreign countries where people work for next to nothing and there are no evironmental laws or labor laws to adhere to. Check for yourself. They pump all their toxic waste right on the ground where it will eventually affect us all. Good job Washington!
