The next president’s inner circle

Posted: 05:51 AM ET

Political Correspondent Richard Lui

Very shortly, if you haven't done so already, many of you will be casting your vote for not only President and VP, but also indirectly a group of top advisers that will drive the President’s decision making. Issues of national security and the economy will be defined and recommended by his cabinet and strategists that inhabit the white house.

Chief of Staff, Secretary of State, and Treasury Secretary are just some of the positions he must fill come January. We look into the process and decisions the president undertakes to fill his staff; as well as some names that have been discussed that McCain or Obama might select. Former eBay president Meg Whitman, Warren Buffet and others are discussed in these reports

These choices might affect who you vote for. You might like some of them, dislike others. Take a look and let us know how if at all, a President McCain’s or President Obama’s potential choices change the way you think.

I'm afraid of who Obama will pick. His choices haven't been very good!

Maria Rivera   October 30th, 2008 8:47 am ET

Obama won't have to worry about it. President McCain will pick the right people for the right job.

Beverly   October 30th, 2008 9:16 am ET

I hope Obama will pick a group of people that have the wisdom he wants and needs and that HE will have the wisdom to listen to them. McCain picked Palin....do I need to say more?????

I am 57 years old and have never been more comfortable in my choice for president of the united states of America. I am disappointed in the issues and solutions that America has before us. During president Kennedy, he had a law that said, no business of the same, can sale retail cheaper than another business can buy wholesale. This allowed small business to be competitive with large business and large business to make more profit. This would people back to work and make a strong America again. Set a ceiling on imported goods, like from China, so we can make the products even if they are higher. Go straight line tax and keep the tax on luxury items instead of taxing everybody. We need new direction and hope, my vote will be for president Obama.

We haven't even talked about starvation in the world that could be abolished if we wanted, with a fraction of the money we are waisting. We don't seem to understand our medical care cost is bankrupting people every day, or insurance companies are running wild, raping people on cost and low or no pay outs.

Little else determines the credibility of an administration's influence. Re: LA Times controversy. Isn't anybody talking? What of the impression of the other attendees. What about the question regarding why the tape source is concerned of disclosure. Likely fear! of what?!

I'm undecided because of the way the candidates acted. I wish they just stuck with the issues. I'm kinda ashamed to think the person I choose to be President acted like a child in a playground brawl. Hummmm, if I go to their level I would be doing, Eeny meeny mynie moe. Can someone ask Joe the plumber where the plunger is so I can break through some of the bs.

I believe that Obama has big plans for Hillary Clinton. I mean he had to have known about the so called "Dream Ticket" and since he didn't pick her for VP, I wonder what he has up his sleeves for her in his cabinet.

Let us see how bi partisanship will play with Obama. Let him stick true to his word and see if any republicans are picked for his advisors. I truly doubt it. For me its always the same thing. Lots of words, but not enough action. I am hoping and praying he will act upon his words that he has been swooning america with.

I think President Elect Obama should choose Colin Powell as the country's next Secretary of Defense. I think someone with military experience should be appointed to that position and I think Colin Powell is the perfect candidate for that position. But that's just my opinion. What do you think Robin?

I must say as an African American, I'm very proud to have Senator Obama as the next President of The United States, Not only that he is now the leader of this great Nation, but he is now the becon of light to peace for the world. You can see that ; Shall i say the rejoice around the world because he has been elected. So i say to President Obama, not only that you are the Commander In Chief but also the Commander of Peace for all Nations, God Bless You and the World

With the victory of the election won. There are millions of energized citizens waiting for additional instructions. I would like to suggest that we be used to start a National Savings Bonds Drive across the country. Engage average people to help save the economy by increasing our Treasury with our funds. This helps in a TWO-FOLD WAY. First Americans are encouraged to start saving for the future. With the overall savings rate at 1% this is something we all need to do. Second we realize a Patriotic goal of pitching in to help the country save itself. Obama received 158 million votes if each person who voted for him to invest in a $50.00 bond for $32.00 and held it for 7 years think of the amount of money the government would realize in one year? Now, what 100 million buying a bond a month using payroll deduction? This is low hanging fruit with an immediate impact.

Naomi's suggestion of re-introducing the savings bond program is brilliant! I still have incomplete books from the late 1950s. What a huge help this would be to the government for much needed cash. These programs would help those citizens who are starving or are living on meager means such as SSDI and SSI only. Mr. Obama seems to be a much-needed savior who just might be on track to getting us closer to a balanced budget – something we haven't seen for over 40 years.

I will like to assist does who are about to loose their job either Bankers or the Car Industry. I would be more than happy to have them join me in the US Army. They will get paid and serve their country. We have a Finance Department and we have Heavy Wheel Mechanics and Operators. Why are they forgetting that they are needed on the front line? We have jobs for them and all the other unemployed Americans that enjoy the freedom they have.

President Elect Obama will do fine, andhe will surround himself with the Best People possible. He will do os (Americans) proud, you will see. Regards, Geo.
