Special Salute to Our Troops

Posted: 07:06 AM ET

Anchor Robin Meade

Can we ever do enough for our troops?

I'll be in New York on assignment Thursday and Friday - at a concert to honor our young vets.
It's a joint venture between CNN networks and MTV. I'll be talking with the troops about the issues they face. Meanwhile, performers like Kid Rock and Will Ferrell will be doing their thang on stage!

You'll see the bulk of my work on MTV Friday night at 8pm eastern. Then, I'll make an appearance to talk about it on Anderson Cooper’s 360 Special “Back From The Battle” CNN Saturday and Sunday night 8 eastern.

Why is it that Sarah Palin has spent $150,000 on clothes in three monthes while talking about buying her clothes at Walmart. I don't believe Walmart owns Sax Fifth Avenue. For the average Social Security recipient that is what they live on for 5 years.

These clothes were bought by the RNC and I am sure since McCain
is taking the money from the Government that the tax payer gives
when paying their taxes. That is not why I marked that little box on
my tax form.

Robin,

Thanks for honoring our troops and vets. I know they will enjoy meeting you very much. I would!

Thank you....

(Got to say hope someone answers my e-mails about Palins abuse of power of Governor of Alaska findings), Overall, since this is military, I was deeply moved in seeing footage of troops in Afganifstran friendly fire incident. Have watched "band of brothers" movie lately. Deepened my understanding of "that look" the troops had. I admire them, they are courageous, strong and my heart felt sad. Please, please, get us out of Irag, and get more in to Afganistan to help these brave men that are fighting the real terrorists of US. They seem to feel so alone and forgotten. Please God, help them. (by the way, the Liberals believe in GOD and OUR TROOPS just as much if not more than the screaming GOP). Very respectfully and utmostly Sincerely, a US citizen. (not democrat, or republican,or liberaterian, but univerersaliarian. Support the US. That means ALL OF US

Lily   October 24th, 2008 3:41 am ET

(typing fast, not meaning to spell incorrectly, I do know Afganifstan is NOT Afganifstran, and Iraq, is NOT Irag. ) wrong key, right sentiment. Please get us back to the REAL WAR, Help these brave men and women in Afganistan fighting the actual people that attacked us. I do hope that even tho we are debating at home for presidential control, our troops hear loudly and clearly our commitment to our soldiers in Afganistan, our support, prayers (yes, Liberals pray too.., ), come home safe, we ARE proud of you.

ROBIN, YOU ARE WONDERFUL FOR BEING THERE FOR OUR TROOPS. BEING A NAM VET, I KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD HAVE MEANT TO ME IF WE HAD SOMEONE LIKE YOU THERE FOR US.
MAYBE YOU COULD BE THE ONE TO FINALLY EXPRESS SOME THANKS FOR WHAT THE BRAVE MEN & WOMAN DID FOR THIS COUNTRY IN VIET NAM.

Peggy in Iowa   October 24th, 2008 3:10 pm ET

Out of Iraq, never should have gone there. Stay after BinLaden and associates; should have always stayed there. Catch 'em, kill 'em and come home soon. Lots of Love to all brave soldiers in Afganistan.

Max   October 24th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I am a 33 year active duty vet. The worst years for the military ... the least money for pay and training and equipment (the shell of a force years) ... were those of the Carter years and the Clinton years.

When we were first married inflation was at what ... 20% .... and we had no hopes of ever being able to catch up financially to obtain the elusive American dream.

When Reagan made big changes .... the military received the attention it needed to again do the job needed .... and my salary began to catch up to what we needed and we bought our first house.

We put ourselves through college and post graduate school (not paid for by the government or the military). Our parents were small farmers and civil service workers.

We help others by donating time and money with no middle men to siphon off any of it.

We will never ask the taxpayers to pay for what we want or need.

Maybe if Barak wants to help people he should do so from his own funds and not take money out of my pocket to give to someone else ... or maybe instead of using the government to take my money he should come and ask me in person for my money

Thank you

Sam & Vicki Sanders   October 28th, 2008 8:49 pm ET

Hey Robin,
We watch & enjoy your show about every day. We would like to salute our son, Lieutenant Sammie Sanders (soon to be Lieutenant Commander) of the Submarine Service. He has done a tour in the Gulf but thank God he is back home and safe. We know that it takes several military men and women back here at home in support roles to support those in the war zone so let's not forget these patriotic folks. Even though they are not in a war zone, they are no less patriotic nor are their jobs less important.
Thanks,
Sam & Vicki Sanders

THANKS FOR ALL THE TROOP SUPPORT. LET US REMEMBER OUR MILITARY IS ALL OVER THE GLOBE. I CANT WAIT FOR MY HUSBAND TO COME HOME. HE MAY NOT BE ON THE FRONT LINES BUT HE HAS SERVED OVER 25 YEARS, TRAVELED TO MANY LANDS AND IS STILL GOING STRONG. GOD BLESS ALL WHO SERVE HERE AND ABROAD

Mike   October 30th, 2008 10:37 am ET

Robin,
I apologize for posting this question here, but I am a troop and I am in need. Can you pleaes share with us where you get your pendants? My wife comments on them every morning and I would love to be able to surprise her with one for our anniversary this year. I have missed the last three in a row. In particular, she loves the star you were wearing this morning (30 OCT).
Thanks,
Mike

peoriaguy   October 31st, 2008 8:08 am ET

Robin's open support of the troops is fantastic, and makes me like the show even more. It has become politically unpopular in many circles to even say you support the troops, so Robin's focus on them is even that much better. Keep it up !

Proud Marine Wife   November 8th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Robin,
My husband and I didn’t watch the MTV special because we were very disappointed with the concert as a whole. Instead of having the concert in NYC, it would have meant much more for the troops and their families if the concert had taken place at an actual military base with the audience primarily war veterans instead of hundreds of “emo” teenagers who don’t even know what the war is based on or about. We were very disappointed and wish that MTV wouldn’t exploit today’s new generation of young veterans. I hope that on this Veterans Day that MTV will actually remember the fallen and not produce another concert for non-military families.
Thank you.

I am a man that pays my chield support, however my job closed its doors, I was there for six years an I can't even get an unemployment check, also my income taxes were taken not half but all of it, my question is what do you do when you have no income an can not find a job but you are one of the men out to do whats right an the men that run from responsibility are the ones that get away with it. I have a family an I have no income can't even get a rebate check due to chield support an I pay my chield support what can I do? I would like for this question to be asked on the morning show please.

DELMAR REED   March 18th, 2009 9:02 am ET
