Jen has fallen and she can't get up!

Posted: 05:02 AM ET

Anchor Robin Meade

Hi bloggers. This is Robin. I wanted to let you know why you won’t see Jen on the air today. She *sprained her foot at work* yesterday! Word on the street is…she was a real trouper. She finished out her work day…starting off with a cane…but progressing quickly to piggy back rides to maneuver around the office. (She’s in New York, we’re in Atlanta…so I can not give you an eyewitness account).

So Jen, just want to let you know you’ll be missed!

Especially by me cuz now I have to do your segment today. Bwaa haaa.

Jen feel better soon!

Bloggers, post your advice to jen here about how to handle a sprained foot. (And your well wishes too!)

I wish Jen a speedy recovery. I love the show and the whole cast seems to mesh together so well. I have to try to keep up by Robin's Podcasts and the blog here while here in Iraq

capt jeff   July 8th, 2008 5:43 am ET

jen... get on a 757 and fly to a beach in Puerto Rico...the sunshine, soft sand, leeward tropical breezes, and SPF 20 will have you up and about in a week or so... if the pain gets too much, cold drinks with lots of alcohol help...

Jim   July 8th, 2008 6:00 am ET

Jen, get well soon, btw...ur hot!

Joe   July 8th, 2008 6:02 am ET

Jen – Just lay back in bed girl with your leg up on a soft pillow; get EVERYONE to feel sorry for you and do all those chores you've been putting off; and take those "happy pills" ! – and milk it for all it's worth woman !

John Wallace   July 8th, 2008 6:04 am ET

Jen,I hope you get well soon. I love seeing your smilng face on tv every morning.

Chris   July 8th, 2008 6:30 am ET

The only advice that I can give is that you should not stand for a long period of time. I hope that you, Jen, would get better and that you would get back on the air on Morning Express.

Taja   July 8th, 2008 6:37 am ET

Best wishes for Jen I love you and Robin and the rest of the Morning Crew.............get well soon!

Brigitte   July 8th, 2008 6:44 am ET

Feel better soon Jen. The only advise I have is relax and stay off your foot.. You will be missed in the morning.

Alan   July 8th, 2008 6:55 am ET

I once had a very bad sprain on both side of my foot. I was given an electric stimulator that produced a mild electric shock that took away the pain and helped the reconstruction of my foot. That beach scenario sounds like it would help with the self healing too! Get back soon next to Robin I enjoy your input the most, sorry Bob!

L.E.Brooks   July 8th, 2008 6:55 am ET

Get well soon and take care of that foot

kelly   July 8th, 2008 6:57 am ET

Miss you,Jen! hope you feel better fast!!!

Paul Seabrook   July 8th, 2008 7:05 am ET

Hope you get better soon Jen! We miss ya. Robin will have to pull double duty to fill in!

Reuben   July 8th, 2008 7:09 am ET

Sorry to hear about that sprained foot of yours, Jen. Please get well, and (hopefully) soon! I've gotten used to that brainy, cute, realistic, Jersey Girl attitude of yours, and the show just sucks without it. ;-) It just ain't the same, girl, without you stirring it up with Robin!

Rebecca   July 8th, 2008 7:11 am ET

As a therapist, the best advice I can give is try a contrast bath for the ankle. Basically get two tubs of water. Put ice cold water in one and warm water in the other. The water temperatures should be as cold and as hot as you can tolerate. Starting with the cold water, put the foot in for one minute, then switch to the hot water for two minutes. Go back an forth to each tub for a total of 10mins. Always start with cold and end with the cold water. This will pump out any swelling in the ankle. I hope this helps in your recovery.

Robert B.Turk   July 8th, 2008 7:12 am ET

jen get well , .Hope your pain is low and you heal fast ,best of thebest for a early return. You are missed already.good luck from packerland

Jeff R   July 8th, 2008 7:18 am ET

Jen, sorry to here about your mishap,if I were you I would milk it for all that it is if you were in Atlanta you could say Robin trip you and it was here fault, just kidding people lighten up. Hope your back soon, also I agree with JIm, your HOT

Rhonda   July 8th, 2008 7:18 am ET

Hope you feel better soon Jen! I missed you on the show this morning :( But Robin did an awesome job! It's true what they say – It's all about teamwork!

Ray   July 8th, 2008 7:21 am ET

Take care and get well soon, Jen. Your reports are insightful and helpful. We here in the back woods of Texas really appreciate your dedication.

bob   July 8th, 2008 7:26 am ET

hurry and get well soon, miss your smile and laugh.

Tim   July 8th, 2008 7:27 am ET

I want to know how Jen sprained her foot at work! Was Jen giving someone a well deserved kick in the rump or what? We want details! Hope you feel better.

Darr   July 8th, 2008 7:28 am ET

I hope the pain goes away quick Jen. Missing your financial news coverage!

D. Morris   July 8th, 2008 7:36 am ET

If a doctor determines it is badly sprained, he/she can give you a "boot" which is a rigid thick sole with velcro straps to hold it up to about knee length. It seems too cumbersome but AHHH! you will be able to walk and get around using it. Just know it might take several weeks to heal completely and PLEASE do not try to take any shortcuts giving it time to do that. A shortcut might ultimately lead to more serious injury by your leg/foot/hip trying to compensate for using it when it is not full strength. God bless!

Denise   July 8th, 2008 7:38 am ET

Jen,I'll miss you.  The best thing to do is keep that foot elevated, and don't try to do to much to soon.  A sprain  sometimes takes longer to heal than a fracture.By the way, I really like how you present your segment–seriousness mixed with humor.Best Wishes,Denise

Phil Russell   July 8th, 2008 7:39 am ET

Hi Jennifer, Sorry to hear about your pain! I'll miss you because you keep an eye on my wallet, but don't have access to it! lol! Really,I have had the same injury, and I know it's a pain in the a**! Ain't it the truth! No matter where it hurt's,it alway's seem's to make it's way there! Your smart, good looking, funny,so I know you can turn this into a positive! Don't try to catch up on your work, this is your chance to do the thing's that you have been putting off, because of your work! The book's,movie's,nap's,calling old friend's to catch up on the lastest??? and talk ole time's! Your 80% of why I watch the show! The worst thing you can do is try to come back too soon! Take care, Phil

Karen   July 8th, 2008 7:52 am ET

Sorry to hear about your foot Jen! The show is not the same without you! Because of our tough economic times, some/most of the information that you bring to us may not be good news, but your "spoon full of sugar" sure makes the "medicine" go down a little easier!

Bill R   July 8th, 2008 7:55 am ET

Jennifer – the only problem I have with you is that you don't get enough camera time and this isn't going to help!!! Hope you feel better soon and get back on camera!!

Travis   July 8th, 2008 7:56 am ET

Tape an aspirin to your foot and get back to work. No pain, no show!

Shannon   July 8th, 2008 8:03 am ET

Can you say, "Workman's Comp"? Go put your foot up and work on that tan for a week!!

Joe   July 8th, 2008 8:13 am ET

Jen – get back SOON ! PLEEEZE !! Robin I luv ya babe but there's a real good reason you're NOT the financial reporter/editor nad the ANCHOR !! Jen we need you back ASAP ! ... you know what i mean !

Ronald B   July 8th, 2008 8:16 am ET

I think CNN needs to do a special on your foot, live from your couch. Sort of a Leg Up Business Update.

Barbara   July 8th, 2008 8:16 am ET

Phyllis Koerdt   July 8th, 2008 8:17 am ET

I wish you a speedy recovery and feel confident you will be fine. I say this because my 83 1/2 year old Dad just last week ran over himself with a tractor and is recuperating. When the emergency room personnel showed shock at the details of the accident he replied "Well it was just a small tractor." Now THAT my friends is an example of a real trooper!
Get well and be thankful it wasn't a tractor that got you. Phyllis

Cindy   July 8th, 2008 8:17 am ET

Karen   July 8th, 2008 8:52 am ET

Sorry to hear of your accident Jen, Be good and stay off of it until you are supposed to bear weight, or it will bother you for a lot longer than 6 weeks. Sounds like you should probably report from a reclining lawn chair on a beach with cool drinks, and someone waiting on you. Robin???????

John Lanzer   July 8th, 2008 9:22 am ET

Hey, Jersey Girl – missed you this AM! Sorry to hear about the “oops”. As important a part of the morning your smarts and sparkle bring, you will be missed. However, give old TT a call; tell him “JL” says it will be ok for you to use the company jet to get you to a nice beach of your choosing. If he has a problem with that have him give me a call. Feel better soon!

Gregory Rutledge   July 8th, 2008 9:31 am ET

Jen get well soon, You are missed

Scott Mead   July 8th, 2008 9:32 am ET

Hey Robin and Crew
Just was a crusin the cable on my day off and I came upon you and your news broadcast. Just wanted to say hello from one Mead to another. In my research of my family tree. The 'e' is sometimes there and then it is not. The Meads' I am from came here during the 1853 potato famine and settled in New Jersey.
Let Jen know that ICE is the very first thing to apply to a sprained ankle and she will be on her feet in no time. All of you keep up the great work! :)

Tim   July 8th, 2008 9:37 am ET

Robin you are the best! You get my day off to a great start. Sorry to hear Jen is hurting. Hope she is back "kicking business news" soon!!

Mary   July 8th, 2008 9:39 am ET

I listen to you guys every am (even though, I am one of the thousands of unemployed) Love the program and all the news – without all the "junk" in-between. Hope your foot feels better, soon. You need to borrow a "Huv-a-around"<Don't think i spelt that right, (English was one of my worst subjects!!)

Anywho, have a fantastic day, boo-boo and all

Mary from Florida

LAURIE GOOD   July 8th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Dear Jen;
SORRY, TO hear of your accident. As a early morning viewer, I look forward to your smile and insights on the economy . Only you can make the economic picture and forecasts sound hopeful. Take good care of yourself– You're missed. God Bless.

Jared Masters   July 8th, 2008 9:40 am ET

Love the show of course, however, this is a special get well soon for Jennifer. We at The Amaz-zing Blu Company are a small business right now, we are in the process of producing video footage of our awesome products at work, and it would be an honor for Jennifer to review us.

So we @ AMAZ-ZING-BLU.COM say to Jennifer, pack some ice on your ankle, wrap it up tight with an ace bandage and get back to work! We need you sooner than later & hopefully not the latter, (lol squared), and that stands for lots of laughs with lots of love!

Jared Masters
Executive Operations Director

Jen, Sorry to hear about your foot pain. The best way to recover is to let me take care of you :-)

Ok, Stay off your foot for a few days, keep ice on it.

Hope you heal up quickly!

Melissa   July 8th, 2008 9:49 am ET

Sorry to hear about your accident, Jen! Sure missed you on the show today, but I'm sure you'll be back just as soon as you can. Rebecca's advice regarding the ice bath / heat bath, and keeping your foot elevated is the best advice around for a mild to moderate sprain. Good luck for a speedy recovery, and look forward to seeing you back on the show! Good job filling her shoes this morning, Robin! :-)

julie   July 8th, 2008 9:52 am ET

My Uncle Warren shares your pain, Jen!

Perhaps his story will inspire you. He's 98.5 years old, LOVES to email and is ever-proud to show the growing stack of books he's read. Nothing frivolous, mind you–he sneers if you suggest anything other than non-fiction. We both read Doris K Goodwin's Team of Rivals a couple of years ago and he accused me of cheating! That I must have skipped over in order to finish before he did. Ha. He's had the most wonderful life, full of adventure. He even watched Mt Rushmore being carved and told me once about a road trip with friends from CA to NY via the Canadian their Model T. He said they sold the car for $25 when they finished to help pay for their expenses.

Earlier this year he had to give up his apt and move to independent living facilities. No sooner did he move in when an aide shoved a sock on his foot so hard she nearly broke bones in his ankle! UW ended up wearing a boot. As if that isn't frustrating enough for a man so proud of his independent ways, he had a fall because of that darn boot but thankfully landed on his knees. 98.5 and landed on his knees? I would have been flat on my face and complaining vociferously!

Well, I'm trying to entertain you a little, as I know how frustrating it is to recover from an injury. Uncle Warren and I both wish you a speedy, speedy recovery! :-)

Come back to us. We miss you @ RM/ME !

Jodi   July 8th, 2008 9:54 am ET

I hope Jen feels better soon. Just remember to ice it 20 minutes on 20 minutes off. A glass of wine wouldn't hurt either.

LesfromAdelphi   July 8th, 2008 10:02 am ET

Get well Jen. I miss your reports. You're easy on the eyes. You should be
better in few months.

Mike   July 8th, 2008 10:05 am ET

John   July 8th, 2008 11:10 am ET

Hey, piggy back rides sound like fun. Milk it for all it's worth.

Feel better soon and don't run back to the office before your totally healed.

Jennie   July 8th, 2008 11:13 am ET

Get well soon, from one Jen to another! Heal properly, because you don't want any future troubles from taking short-cuts. We'll miss your dazzling smile, but we want you to take good care of yourself (or better yet, get hubby to do the caring for you). Best wishes!!!

Michael   July 8th, 2008 11:17 am ET

All Robin Meade fans, like myself, would like to wish Jen-Jen (my personal nickname for her) a speedy recovery. She helps out greatly in all information she gives out every morning. Taking Tylenol should help do the trick as far as her sprained foot goes. A friend and co-worker of Robin, is a friend of mine.

vincentcino   July 8th, 2008 11:22 am ET

jen, stay off your feet and soak the bad one take a couple of days off, take care see ya soon.

(Doctor) Tom Kosak   July 8th, 2008 11:46 am ET

Best wishes to Jen! I broke my little toe last year, and the pain (oh, the pain).

Jen needing piggyback rides. Wowzers. How much is it to fly to NY? Robin, if you need any help....

Marsena   July 8th, 2008 11:50 am ET

We miss you Jen. You do a great job, and we love the wit and humor. Remember to follow doctors orders, and keep that foot up. When they stay off of it, just do it! k?

Mirlin   July 8th, 2008 12:08 pm ET

I am sorry you are hurt, I hope you get better soon. I've always liked you and you have this smile that seems mischievous, sort of like you'd be fun at a party. If there is such a thing as "Make A Wish" for adults and I get some terminal illness, my request would be to party with you and Robin. ;)
Sending good energy your way ....

kevin   July 8th, 2008 12:20 pm ET

jen, miss your wit and insight, get well soon

Steve Robison   July 8th, 2008 12:22 pm ET

Hey Jen, I know what its like to not be able to get around. Just had back surgery. So, hang in there and take care of yourself. We Always enjoy your part of the Morning Express. Get Well Soon. Steve

Jim   July 8th, 2008 12:29 pm ET

Sorry to hear about your mishap! Hope recovery goes well and you get back to work soon. The day is not complete without catching up on all the "happenings" with all you guys in the morning. As we do in the Army, just say "HOOAH" and drive on to recovery!! Hope to see you soon.

Kally Griffon   July 8th, 2008 12:41 pm ET

Why are you MAKING FUN OF JEN'S INJURY? A sprain ankle can be very serious and if not treated right can lead to a lifetime of pain and trouble. Whay I would suggest that Robin and Co. do is to showed your support for Jen, by everybody at Headlines, News spend one day as if they have a sprain foot ankle.

Dionna O'Reilly   July 8th, 2008 12:42 pm ET

Jen: Get well soon. Missed your report this morning. Robin did a good job for you, but we miss your insider touches.

I was hoping that cookies would help stop you reporting that oil and gas prices keep going up....I guess it took hurting your foot to help the prices to go down. Hope you are back on your feet soon.

The best way to take care of a sprained ankle is to make people bring you things like ice cream, cookies, full body massages, you know the basics :P tk

Brian   July 9th, 2008 12:36 pm ET

Here's to you Jen for a speedy recovery ((HUGZ))
You do know that you have to sit and elevate your leg all day and that means off your feet and calling in sick for at least the next couple of days. Since it's Wednesday you might as well call it good for the week lol.
Make sure you have hubby massage your foot/ankle and wait on you hand and foot. You know you can milk this thing for a good one! ; )
We'll miss ya but wish you continued health and happiness.
See ya when ya get back Jen

Brian from Seattle

Mel   July 9th, 2008 12:40 pm ET

If Jen needs piggy back rides to get along, I'll be more than happy to apply for the job.

Allen   July 9th, 2008 12:49 pm ET

Will in California   July 10th, 2008 5:49 am ET

Hi jovial Jennifer, well maybe not so jovial; still how are ya? Hope you're feeling better. I heard on the grapevine that you twisted your ankle when practicing to run of the bulls in Spain. I kid you so! Then I heard that Robin's assignment is to run for you, Jen. Once again, I kid you so. What moxie, what machisma (I think that's a word). Jen if you have excellent health benefits at your work, you can ask if you can use a Segway to get around. Well, it was just a thought. Get well soon, and don't be running in heels when you get better. Use flats to walk in (if it's OK for work), and if you want to bug Robin, use Crocs, she doesn't like them on adults.

See you soon, sweetheart of the Stock Market.

p.s. I meant you're the sweetheart Jen, not me. :-)

Matthew C. Smith   July 22nd, 2008 4:37 pm ET

And this sprain was caused by......?????? Running to/from the espresso stand to "film" your next segment? Rushing to/from the overcrowded executive washroom? Stumbling over your maket profits sitting on your office floor? (there must be SOOOOO many of those these days!)
No really girl, you curl up with a good book and lay back and take a really long rest. You deserve it. Even though us viewers will suffer because of your abscence.

Ann   January 15th, 2009 12:04 am ET

oh i certainly hope it wasn't those high heels that caused this cause i would be like "yikes!" wishing Jen all the love and recovery from this :)

my solution: keep that leg up and after its all mended up, go to a massage therapist to put it back into comfort form (aka to strengthen it so this situation doesnt happen again)
